General Education for Practical Wisdom
With its extensive program for general education, the University of Ulsan aims to produce well-rounded individuals equipped with knowledge of liberal arts and practical wisdom. This program requires all students to take elementary courses in communication, empathy, logical reasoning and creative thinking, which allows students to develop practical wisdom.
Knowledge is valuable only when it helps learners to understand people and the society. Knowledge would not be truly useful unless it is supported by “practical wisdom” - i.e. the ability to communicate with people and the world. Communication skills, empathy, logical reasoning, and creative thinking are what make knowledge valuable, complete and beneficial.
Combining knowledge with practical wisdom is the main focus of education for majors in humanities and social sciences at UOU. By offering a variety of comprehensive educational programs such as foreign and domestic internships, volunteer work, and international academic events, UOU provides students with rich opportunities to foster practical skills and wisdom needed this time.
With the establishment of the College of General Education in 2020, UOU has launched another ambitious project to expand the scope of education for practical wisdom to all majors, including engineering, natural sciences, and medicine. Students of all majors are not only required to take elementary courses in general education, but are strongly encouraged to participate in internships and other extra-curricular activities to cultivate individual virtues and practical social skills. University of Ulsan is ready to help you fully realize your potential with its unique disciplinary orientation for practical wisdom.
